Breville Barista Express
The least-bad way to start if you want one box and one decision.

Why we pick it
- The grinder, the machine and a tamper arrive together, so the first month is about learning to make a shot, not about matching parts.
- Digital temperature control (PID) is unusual at this price: most machines near it leave water temperature to chance.
- Breville publishes the specs plainly, which makes the comparison with the cheaper two-box routes easy to check.
The trade-off
Built-in grinders are the usual weak point of all-in-ones, and the one in this class can't be swapped for a better one later. Its 54 mm portafilter also limits which aftermarket baskets and tools fit. That is the price of the one-box convenience.
Who it is not for
- Anyone who already owns a decent grinder. You would pay for a second one you will not use.
- Anyone who expects to upgrade in a year. The grinder is part of the machine: when you outgrow it, you replace both.
- Small kitchens that can't spare the footprint. It is a wide, tall appliance.
